Florida State Seminoles Football: Recent Developments and Future Outlook

January 20, 2025

The Florida State Seminoles football program has been active in recent weeks, making significant strides in both recruitment and coaching staff enhancements.

Recruitment Updates

In mid-January, the Seminoles secured commitments from two promising recruits:

  • Chavez "Sandman" Thompson: A versatile offensive lineman from Cocoa High School in Florida, Thompson stands at 6'2" and weighs 310 pounds. Initially committed to Florida International University, he flipped to FSU, bolstering the offensive line for the 2025 class. Thompson was named Offensive Lineman of the Year by Brevard Sports Network and is expected to develop into a center for the Seminoles.

  • Antonio Cromartie Jr.: A defensive back from Carrollton High School in Georgia, Cromartie Jr. is the son of former NFL All-Pro Antonio Cromartie Sr., who also played at FSU. Standing at 5'11" and weighing 170 pounds, he had an impressive senior season with 85 tackles, four forced fumbles, four pass breakups, and one interception. His commitment continues the Cromartie legacy at FSU.

Coaching Staff Enhancements

In December 2024, reports indicated that FSU head coach Mike Norvell was planning to hire defensive coordinator Tony White from Nebraska, along with defensive line coach Terrance Knighton. White's tenure at Nebraska was marked by a strong defensive performance, and his addition is anticipated to strengthen FSU's defensive unit.

Season Performance and Future Outlook

The Seminoles faced challenges during the 2024 season, including a five-game losing streak and struggles on both offense and defense. Despite these setbacks, the team is focused on rebuilding and improving for the upcoming season. The recent recruitment successes and coaching staff enhancements are expected to contribute to a more competitive and resilient team in the 2025 season.

As the Seminoles continue to strengthen their roster and coaching staff, the program aims to return to its former prominence in college football.
