Government Confirms No Plans for 8th Pay Commission

In a significant development, the Union Finance Ministry has announced that there are currently no plans to establish the 8th Central Pay Commission. This decision has left over one crore central government employees and pensioners seeking clarity on future pay revisions.

Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary, addressed this issue in the Rajya Sabha, stating that no proposal is under consideration for the formation of the 8th Pay Commission. This response came after parliamentarians Javed Ali Khan and Ramji Lal Suman inquired about the government's intentions regarding the new pay commission in the upcoming Union Budget for 2025-26, scheduled for presentation on February 1, 2025.

The 7th Pay Commission, which was implemented in January 2016, has been in effect for nearly nine years. Historically, the government has established a new pay commission approximately every ten years, leading to expectations that the 8th Pay Commission would be constituted by January 2026.

The absence of a new pay commission has raised concerns among central government employees and pensioners, especially in light of rising inflation and increased living costs. Many are advocating for timely pay revisions to address these challenges.

While the Finance Ministry has clarified that no proposal is currently under consideration for the 8th Pay Commission, employees and pensioners remain hopeful for future developments. The National Council of the Joint Consultative Machinery (JCM) is scheduled to meet next month, where discussions regarding the formation of the next pay commission are expected to take place.

As the situation evolves, central government employees and pensioners continue to seek clarity and timely updates on the matter.
