Manchester United's challenging season continued as they suffered a 3-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford. This defeat marks their tenth in the Premier League this season, positioning them in 13th place with 26 points from 22 matches.
Brighton took an early lead when Yankuba Minteh scored in the 5th minute. Although Manchester United equalized in the 23rd minute through a Bruno Fernandes penalty, Brighton regained control in the second half. Kaoru Mitoma netted in the 60th minute, and Georginio Rutter capitalized on a mistake by goalkeeper André Onana in the 76th minute to seal the victory.
This result highlights Manchester United's defensive vulnerabilities, having conceded the first goal in each of their last five Premier League home games. Additionally, they have suffered six home league defeats in their first 12 home matches, the most since the 1893-94 season.
Manager Ruben Amorim candidly addressed the team's struggles, stating, "We are the worst Manchester United team in history." Despite the challenges, he remains committed to his tactical approach, emphasizing the need for resilience during this period.
The defeat also underscores individual challenges, notably for goalkeeper André Onana, whose errors have been costly in recent matches. The team now faces the task of regrouping ahead of their upcoming fixtures, aiming to improve their standing and performance in the league.
