JSW MG Motor India is preparing to introduce its first electric sports car, the MG Cyberster, to the Indian market in January 2025. This launch will inaugurate the company's new premium retail channel, MG Select, which aims to cater to customers seeking innovative and sustainable mobility solutions.
Design and Features
The MG Cyberster draws inspiration from the classic 1960s MG B Roadster, blending retro aesthetics with modern technology. A standout feature is its electric scissor doors, a first in India, equipped with dual radar sensors and an anti-pinch bounce-back mechanism for enhanced safety. These doors can be operated via the interior console, key fob, or door buttons, opening or closing in approximately five seconds.
The roadster's exterior showcases a low-slung stance, sleek aerodynamic lines, swept-back LED headlamps, and functional front vents for battery cooling. The rear features C-shaped LED tail lights connected by a light bar. Inside, the Cyberster offers a curved three-screen setup, including an infotainment display and a touchscreen-equipped center console, along with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technology.
Performance and Specifications
Internationally, the MG Cyberster is available in two powertrain configurations:
A single-motor rear-wheel-drive variant powered by a 64kWh battery, delivering 335 bhp and 475 Nm of torque, with a WLTP-certified range of 507 km.
A dual-motor all-wheel-drive version featuring a 77kWh battery, producing 496 bhp and 725 Nm of torque, with a range of 443 km.
Both setups offer four driving modes—Comfort, Custom, Sport, and Track.
MG Select Retail Channel
The introduction of the Cyberster will mark the debut of MG Select, a luxury brand channel by JSW MG Motor India. MG Select plans to establish experience centers across 12 cities, focusing on sustainable and technologically advanced mobility solutions while drawing on the brand's legacy.
Market Positioning
The MG Cyberster is expected to be imported as a completely built unit (CBU) and is anticipated to be priced between Rs 50 lakh and Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom). As an electric sports car, it will have no direct rivals in the Indian market but will be positioned alongside premium electric vehicles such as the BYD Seal, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Kia EV6.
This launch signifies MG's commitment to blending its storied heritage with cutting-edge technology, offering Indian consumers a unique combination of classic design and modern electric performance.
