Punjab FC Triumphs Over Mumbai City FC with a 3-0 Victory

 


In a remarkable display of skill and strategy, Punjab FC secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Mumbai City FC at the Mumbai Football Arena on November 26, 2024. This win not only handed Mumbai City FC their first home defeat in nine matches but also marked Punjab FC's largest away victory in the Indian Super League (ISL).

First Half: A Late Surge

The match began with both teams testing each other's defenses. Mumbai City FC had early opportunities, with Lallianzuala Chhangte and Nikos Karelis creating chances, but Punjab FC's defense stood firm. In the 45th minute, just before halftime, Ezequiel Vidal capitalized on a defensive lapse by Mumbai City FC. Receiving a well-timed pass from Luka Majcen, Vidal unleashed a powerful left-footed shot from outside the box, finding the top-left corner and giving Punjab FC a crucial lead.

Second Half: Majcen's Penalty and Bakenga's Finish

The second half saw Mumbai City FC intensify their efforts to equalize. Substitutions brought fresh energy, with Brandon Fernandes and Noufal PN entering the game. Despite their efforts, Mumbai City FC struggled to break down Punjab FC's well-organized defense. In the 53rd minute, Filip Mrzljak was fouled inside the box, earning Punjab FC a penalty. Captain Luka Majcen stepped up and confidently converted, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and doubling the lead.

As the match progressed, Mumbai City FC continued to press forward, but their attempts were thwarted by Punjab FC's resolute defense and goalkeeper Ravi Kumar. In the 84th minute, substitute Ninthoi Meetei delivered a precise pass to Mushaga Bakenga, who calmly placed the ball into the bottom-left corner, sealing the victory for Punjab FC.
