Real Madrid's Commanding 4-1 Victory Over Las Palmas Propels Them to La Liga Summit

January 19, 2025

In a decisive display at the Santiago Bernabéu, Real Madrid surged to the top of La Liga with a 4-1 triumph over UD Las Palmas. The match began unfavorably for the hosts, as Fabio Silva netted for Las Palmas merely 25 seconds after kickoff—the earliest goal conceded by Real Madrid since 2011.

Undeterred, Real Madrid equalized in the 18th minute when Kylian Mbappé converted a penalty following a foul on Rodrygo. The momentum shifted firmly in Madrid's favor as Brahim Díaz capitalized on a Lucas Vázquez assist to make it 2-1 in the 33rd minute. Shortly thereafter, Mbappé struck again, delivering a powerful shot into the top corner to extend the lead. Although he appeared to complete a hat-trick before halftime, the goal was disallowed due to an offside ruling.

The second half saw Rodrygo add a fourth goal in the 57th minute, culminating a well-orchestrated team effort. Las Palmas' challenges intensified when Benito Ramírez received a red card for a dangerous tackle on Vázquez, reducing the visitors to ten men.

This victory, coupled with Atlético Madrid's unexpected loss to Leganés, positions Real Madrid two points clear at the top of the standings. The match also marked the return of David Alaba, who made his first appearance in over a year following injury, substituting in the final minutes.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, highlighting their resilience after an early setback. He also praised Mbappé's contributions, noting his growing synergy with teammates. The squad now turns its focus to the upcoming Champions League fixture against RB Salzburg, aiming to maintain their strong form.
