Tata Motors has officially announced the reintroduction of the iconic Tata Sierra SUV, slated for launch in the latter half of 2025. The revived Sierra will be available in both electric (EV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) variants, marking a significant expansion in Tata's SUV lineup.
Launch Timeline and Variants
The Sierra EV is scheduled to debut first, followed closely by its ICE counterpart. This phased rollout mirrors Tata's strategy with the Curvv model, where the EV version was introduced ahead of the ICE variant.
Platform Details
Sierra EV: Built on Tata's Acti.EV architecture, also known as the Gen2 EV platform, which supports multiple body styles and offers ranges between 300 km and 600 km. This platform underpins other models like the Punch EV and Curvv EV.
Sierra ICE: Expected to utilize the newly developed ATLAS (Adaptive Tech Forward Lifestyle) platform, designed to accommodate various body styles, including SUVs, MPVs, and sedans. The ATLAS platform is engineered to support 4x4 capabilities, potentially reintroducing a 4x4 system in Tata's lineup since the discontinuation of the Safari Storme in 2020.
Design and Features
The production-ready Sierra retains design elements from its concept version, featuring a boxy silhouette reminiscent of the original model. Notable design aspects include a sleek LED light strip along the front, split headlamps, black bumpers with silver-finish skid plates, and a dual-tone roof. The characteristic panoramic rear window pane has been modernized, and the SUV is equipped with flush-fitting door handles and dual-tone alloy wheels.
Powertrain Options
Sierra EV: Expected to offer both single-motor and dual-motor configurations, with an estimated range of approximately 500 km on a full charge. An optional all-wheel-drive system may also be available.
Sierra ICE: Anticipated to feature Tata's all-new 1.5L Hyperion turbo petrol engine and a 2.0L diesel engine, providing consumers with versatile powertrain choices.
Upcoming Models
Before the Sierra's launch, Tata Motors plans to introduce the Harrier EV in the first quarter of 2025, which is expected to share components with the Sierra EV.
The return of the Tata Sierra underscores Tata Motors' commitment to blending nostalgic design with modern technology, offering consumers a mix of heritage and innovation in their upcoming SUV lineup.
