Tragic Shooting at Antioch High School Leaves Two Students Dead and One Injured

January 22, 2025

On Wednesday morning, a devastating incident unfolded at Antioch High School in Nashville, Tennessee. At approximately 11:09 a.m., 17-year-old student Solomon Henderson opened fire in the school cafeteria, fatally wounding 16-year-old Josselin Corea Escalante. Another male student sustained a graze wound to the arm, while a third student suffered a facial injury during the ensuing chaos. Following the attack, Henderson turned the gun on himself, resulting in his death.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department is actively investigating the motive behind the shooting, including examining Henderson's online activity and social media posts. Authorities have not yet determined any connection between Henderson and the victims, suggesting the possibility of random gunfire.

At the time of the incident, two school resource officers were present on campus but were not in the immediate vicinity of the cafeteria. The school, which enrolls over 2,100 students, was promptly placed on lockdown as law enforcement secured the premises. Parents were directed to reunification sites established at nearby locations to safely retrieve their children.

In response to the tragedy, Antioch High School will remain closed for the remainder of the week. The school district is providing resources, including grief counseling and support services, to assist students, staff, and families during this difficult time.

This incident marks the first shooting inside a Metro Nashville Public School and comes nearly two years after a previous school shooting in the city. Local leaders and community members are once again calling for stronger gun control measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
