Abhishek Sharma Smashes One of the Fastest T20 Centuries as India Crushes England

On February 2, 2025, at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, Abhishek Sharma delivered a remarkable performance, propelling India to a commanding 150-run victory over England in the final T20 International. His explosive innings of 135 runs from just 54 balls featured 13 sixes and seven fours, marking the second-fastest T20I century for India, achieved in a mere 37 balls. This outstanding display contributed to India's formidable total of 247 runs. In response, England's batting lineup faltered, managing only 97 runs before being bowled out in 10.3 overs. Phil Salt's brisk 55 off 23 balls provided a glimmer of hope, but the rest of the team struggled against India's disciplined bowling attack. Mohammed Shami led the bowlers with three wickets, while Varun Chakravarthy, Shivam Dube, and Abhishek Sharma each claimed two wickets, sealing the series with a 4-1 triumph.

Head coach Gautam Gambhir highlighted the team's commitment to an aggressive, high-risk strategy in T20 cricket, emphasizing selflessness and fearlessness. He acknowledged that while this approach aims for high scores, it may occasionally result in low totals when unsuccessful. Looking ahead, India is set to face England in a three-match One Day International series starting on February 6, followed by their Champions Trophy campaign commencing on February 20 against Bangladesh in Dubai.
